NRL Round 5 (2012) Teams, Stats and Predictions
AFL Preview Round 1
Richmond V Carlton at the MCG Thursday
Night
The Tigers have had a lot of trouble
trying to beat Carlton over the past few seasons and Richmond fans are certainly
looking for another opportunity this Thursday night to start the season with an
upset win. People have been saying that Carlton will win the premiership, if not
last year then this year, if not this year then….well you get the picture. The
Blues still suffer from having an inexperienced back line and against the Tigers
with Reiwoldt lurking it can be costly. Each time supporters expect this to be a
close game we get a rout. 80,000 at the MCG should see a tighter game although
NAB cup form has never been a true indicator as the Blues lost all their matches
in that format while the Tigers accounted for Hawthorn and Geelong. Maybe an
historic win will help Richmond have a better year.

NRL Round 4 Preview
Round 4 of the NRL kicks off tonight with two great games, and for two completely different reasons. The game has expanded to the West..and tonight Souths take on Brisbane. Souths with Greg Inglis at fullback, and in form, take on another form side in the Broncos. What a showcase for the people of the West. The other game is the West Sydney Derby, Parra v Panthers on the weekend that the AFL kick off with the Swans taking on the West Sydney on the Saturday night. Lets see how the NRL fare with the AFL comp. Brisbane and Penrith for me.
2012 SEASON AFL PREVIEW ROUND 1
INTRO: The
dawning of a new season in the AFL and the arrival of the new team, the GWS
Giants, should fill us all with a bit of excitement for 2012. The AFL has
achieved its growth policy with the extra teams in Brisbane and Sydney in what
may be construed as an out and out war against Rugby. The popularity of our
national game is reaching new highs every season. Who would have thought 25
years ago that not only would the AFL not cut the number of teams (South
Melbourne going to Sydney and Fitzroy going to Brisbane) but would increase the
original 12 to 18! While there are great expectations for Gold Coast and GWS
their supporters should not expect instant success.

NRL Round 2 Score and Review
NRL Round 2 kicked off with two blockbusters with Manly taking on the Wests Tigers and the locl derby between Brisbane and North Queensland. Manly continued to contrast their trial form with a strong 22-18 victory, while a piece of Matty Bowen magic gifted the Cowboys a 28-26 win over the Broncos.
Saturday saw the Titans come back to earth losing 24-12 to Canberra, while the Bulldogs pantsed the Dragons 30-4. The Sharks were humbled 18-6 by the Knights, but the Knights faced a period of time wthout their inspiration skipper Kurt Gidley as a shoulder injury derails their early run.
The Penrith Panthers kept the Roosters scoreless in the first Sunday game, 18-0, while Melbourne defeated the Rabbitohs 24-10. Monday night football, added to Parramatta's woes losing to the New Zealand Warriors 36-20.

It's Not a Good Look!
Just sitting here watching the Roosters play the Panthers at the newly named Allianz Stadium, formerly the Sydney Football Stadium. The stands are empty and he viewers are greeted with the sight of blue seats where the punters should be. Its not a good look!
After round 1, and the awesome crowd at Leichardt to watch the Tigers play the Sharks, there was much talk about the demise of the local ground and calls for all games to be played at major stadiums....Today should have answered that question forever. 10,000 at the SFS is ordinary.

NRL Score Update
The first round of the NRL continues after the Thursday night win by the Dragons, with the Broncos showing they again will be a force to be reckoned with, with an emphatic 18-6 victory over the Eels. The Eels were lucky to get on the board at all, with a Gerard Beale error gifting them their only try.
Saturday saw the Storm scramble home over the raiders 24-19, and have Billy Slater on report for good measure. The Raiders looked likely to win, until a final last ditch effort from the Storm got them the points.
The Bulldogs started life with Des Hasler with a 22-14 win over the Panthers, while the Cowboys were hopeless and kept to zilch by the Titans who won 18-0

What a Start! Dragons 15, Knights 14
Exclusively tipped by us, the protege defeated the master...when Jamie Soward slotted a field goal just seconds away from the ending of the first stanza of Golden Point. The Knights and Dragons played out an amazing first round game of the NRL with the game with the game locked up at 14 all in the 72nd minute and stayed that way until the end of regulation, forcing the game into Golden Point. Honestly the game didn't deserve to see a loser, but Jamie Soward ensured that there was one when he kicked the field goal 4 minutes and 40 seconds into Golden Point.
Jack DeBelin showed what a talent he is, by laying a rip-tickler of a game, while Ben Hornby and Soward also shone. The Knights were best served by Darius Boyd playing against his old club, while Danny Buderus also contributed to the Knights.
The Knights will continue to improve as the season continues, but so will the Dragons....If this is what NRL2012 is going to be about.....you beauty...bring it on.

It's On!!!!
Well, here we are just hours away from NRL 2012 kickoff, and what a game to start the season. The wily ole master, Wayne Bennett, and his new club, Newcastle Knights, taking on his protege Steve Price and the Dragons. Bennett's proteges have a bit of a track record of frequent knockovers, just look at Craig Bellamy, so my tip is for the Dragons to win tonight.
The Dragons have been much maligned in the pre-season with many doubting their ability to compete for a Top 4 spot, but you would have to be a brave man to back them out. The Knights will improve under Bennett, no doubt.....but not tonight!
