NRL Finals Week 1 Results

It all seemed so clear.....the top four sides won over the remainder of the top 8, and teams seven and eight were knocked out. So clear....yet apparently this was the first time it had ever happened in the McIntyre system.

Friday night saw a sensational second half performance from the Tigers as they came back from a 12-6 halftime deficit to defeat the reigning Premiers, St George Illawarra 21-12. Saturday night saw dominat performances from Brisbane and Manly as they defeated New Zealand and North Queensland respectively. Brisbane were simply too good winning 40 to 10, while the Cowboys led 8-0 at half-time only to be blown away in the second half to go down 42-8.

Sunday saw a gallant Knights never give in, but the Storm were simply methodical as they squeezed the life out of the Knights 18-8. The clash was absorbing.

The finals series comes alive next week with some enticing matchups. The Wests Tigers play New Zealand on Friday night in a game that could be anything. I hope the Warriors take a different approach and looked to entertain this it will be the clash of the entertainers.

The other game sees the final installment in the Darren Lockyer and Wayne Bennett story, when the Broncos take on the Dragons. We will see the last NRL game by Lockyer if Brisbane go down, and if the Dragons lose, its the last hurrah for Bennett as a Dragon.

Manly and Melbourne sit back and relax and await the winners.
