Saturday night saw two woeful performances by Queensland teams, Gold Coast and North Queensland. The Cowboys in their first home game were thrashed by the Newcastle Knights 34-22. The Cowboys made the scoreline at least look competitive with a couple of late tries, but really was a very ordinary performance by a team with just far too many question marks.
The Titans, faced off against a determined Melbourne side, and just were never in the hunt, with Melbourne at one stage leading 34-0. The final score of 40-12 flattered the Coast, and they were suitably embarrassed by this performance. In the other Saturday night game, the Tigers disposed of the Warriors 20-12.
