Dragons 22 Sharks 4

The Dragons produced an outstanding defensive effort to defeat the Sharks 22-4 in the local derby at Shark Park. The Sharks seemed to have all the possession in the first half and spent what seemed to be 70% of the time attacking the Dragons line, but the defence for the Dragons was amazing as they held the Sharks to a minimal four.

The Dragons gave away plenty of penalties in the game, which gave Cronulla a huge heads up as they pushed the Dragons to the limit. There was a lot to like about the commitment from the Dragons, but heaps more to like about the Dragons effort in defence.

A turning point came with 15 left, when Paul Gallon attempted to dive over from dummy half. He did appear to make a second effort, but he came up claiming that the ball had touched the line. He was called to play it. It was a big call. 12-4 at the time, it would have been 12-10 and the Sharks had the running.

Two tries to the Dragons sealed the game for the Dragons, and fittingly the Dragons won, against an amazingly spirited performance from the Sharks.
