Dragons representative players Michael Weyman and Jason Nightingale will return this week for the Heritage Round clash against the Bulldogs at ANZ Stadium on Friday night.
“I’m looking forward to getting back out there and the Bulldogs are always a tough match”, said Nightingale earlier today. “It was hard sitting on the sideline against Manly, but we weren’t quite right after the test match and it wasn’t worth risking further injury, but we will both be ready to go on Friday night”.

The St George Illawarra Dragons will be wearing a special commemorative jersey for Heritage Round. The jersey will be predominantly red  with white armbands around the sleeves in respect of the Club’s Illawarra heritage. These jerseys will be available from the new Dragons retail store located at St George Leagues Club, which will have its grand opening this Thursday night.
Unavailable Dragons are: Jeremy Smith (knee) 2 weeks, Jarrod Saffy (ankle) 2 weeks, Beau Scott (knee) 4 weeks, Nathan Fien (leg) indefinite, Peni Tagive (ACL) indefinite

St George Illawarra CEO Peter Doust today reaffirmed the Club’s interest in securing the services of local junior and former Captain Mark Gasnier at the Dragons moving forward.

“We have always said that we would be interested in having Mark back at the Dragons if he was ever to return to the NRL,” said Doust.

“We have had discussions with his Manager George Mimis and the NRL about the details of his possible return given his contract in France was finishing. It is a very complicated negotiation, the details of which have to remain commercially in confidence.

“Mark left our Club on good terms and as such he agreed to a clause in his deed of release at that time, about returning to the Dragons if he came back to the NRL and we have always kept in contact with him since he left.

“In saying all this however, an athlete of Mark’s status and experience commands significant salary expectations and we are aware that he is attracting interest from several NRL and rugby union clubs.

“Salary cap management and planning is very complex but we are certainly interested and would be disappointed to see him play elsewhere in the NRL given his history and association with our Club and we will be doing our best within the regulations of the salary cap to see him return to the Dragons”.
