Gary Freeman's R9 NRL previewFox Sports commentator Gary Greeman offers his thoughts and predictions for round nine of the NRL premiership as well as the Anzac Test and City-Country clashes.
Australia v New Zealand, AAMI Park, Friday 8pm (EST)
A very, very tough game. The Kiwis are missing six of their starting lineup. The Kiwis have been in this position a number of times over the years and they will put out a good showing. I think if New Zealand can catch Australia on the back foot from the kick off then they have a real shot at it. I am not picking against the Kiwis, I am picking them for the win.
Country Origin v City Origin, Regional Stadium, Port Macquarie, Friday 7.35pm (EST)
A big game for a number of players. I think if Jamal Idris can come up with a massive game I believe he may end up as one of the Origin centres or get a spot on the bench, same with Chris Lawrence. That clash of the centres will be a highlight. As for halfbacks I think Brett Kimmorley only has to get through this game and two others and he will be the No.7 come Origin. The other two blokes I am really looking forward to battling it out is the No.9s, Farah and Ennis. I am going to pick the Country boys to come out on top but not by much.
Manly v St George Illawarra, Brookvale, Saturday 7.30pm The Sea Eagles have showed us their true form in the last couple of weeks which has been very good. The Dragons had a magnificent win last week against the Sharks but this is different opposition. It will depend for both sides on how their players turn up for their second game in a couple of days. I am going to go for the Eagles to upset the Dragons, especially on home soil.
Melbourne Storm v Brisbane Broncos, AAMI Park, Sunday 3pm (EST)
There is only one team you can pick here. AAMI Stadium opening up on Friday night with the Test and then Sunday with the Storm. Melbourne will get the cash and do it very easily. That's all that needs to be said.
Newcastle Knights v Gold Coast Titans, EnergyAustralia Stadium, Sunday 2pm (EST)
Who would have thought the Gold Coast could have won 50 percent of their games without Scotty Prince. Now he is back in there they won last week and they will again this week. Even though Newcastle are at home they will do it very tough, second game back for Prince he will only get better. Titans for sure.
Sydney Roosters v North Queensland Cowboys, Sydney Football Stadium, Monday 7pm (EST)
What can I say about the Cowboys? They just have nothing going for them in attack or defensively. I think this is a game the Roosters can win. They got away with a lucky win over the Tigers last time but I think the Roosterswill be too tough for the Cowboys, who don’t travel well
