Blues Undone

Every year it seems to be the same.Game 1 of Origin produces the same headlines. "Blues Players vow to stay together", "Bellamy Under Pressure" and "NSW must Learn ORIGIN". Every year, at least for the last four, Qld have shown the way. Loyalty to players, committed to a task. A total state and team approach.

For what it's worth, NSW were lucky last night. Both teams benefited from some 50-50 refereeing decisions, so we won't start there. NSW scored three their tries from kicks, and didn't appear likely to breach the defence all night. For what it's worth, here is what I would do.

You need to pick Jaryd Hayne at fullback. Pick both Morris Twins on the wing, then somehow slot Tahu, Lyons and Jennings into the centre positions. Preference for Lyons and Jennings. Matt Cooper has played his last Origin. Gidley at 5/8 and young Mitchell Pearce at half. You need a way to gain some go-forward and personally I don't think Learoyd-Lars is at this level. Maybe a back to the future play with Willie Mason. And I would find a place for Greg Bird but not for Paul Gallon.

Go Qld.

Yes I would have to say that the NSW selectors got it wrong as far as fielding their best side. Let it be said that this is not just another round of footy in the NRL Comp...it is without a doubt the most profound element in our game....it's a battle for state supremacy and the players cherish it more than representing their own country and how much passion is affixed to that.....
